Volunteer Session - Biochar Making – conture shape and other Soil building approaches
07.02.2026 Attending: 1 Open: 7
A practical, earth-centred session focused on making biochar — a regenerative soil element that transforms woody waste into long-term nourishment for the land. Together we convert excess biomass into a stable form of carbon that supports soil life and resilience. >> WEATHER PERMITTING << if there are many hand we will also continue the shape&dig on the marginal conture lines.
Location: BROOMHILL Duration: 9am - 2pm
What to bring: Closed shoes suitable for uneven ground Weather-appropriate clothing (sun protection, layers) Work gloves (some spares available) Water bottle Hat and sunscreen A small container or bag if you wish to take herbs or harvest home Curiosity, care, and a willingness to work with the land For Biochar Sessions (if participating hands-on): Long sleeves and natural-fibre clothing Sturdy gloves suitable for heat Optional: dust mask or bandana Seasonal Context: Late summer offers dry conditions ideal for controlled burns and biochar creation. This is a moment to return carbon to the soil while preparing beds for the slower, nutrient-building months ahead. Ways to Participate: Assisting with biochar preparation and burn process Collecting and sorting suitable woody material Charging and integrating biochar into compost or soil Observing and learning without direct fire work Learning Focus: Understanding biochar as a regenerative tool — how it improves soil structure, holds nutrients and moisture, and supports microbial life while sequestering carbon long-term.
