Hands-On Garden Care – Mulching, Fertilising & Mid-Season Tasks
10.02.2026 Attending: 0 Open: 6
A practical learning session focused on caring for the garden during the height of the growing season. Together we explore mulching techniques, gentle fertilising, and essential mid-season jobs that support plant health, soil life, and continued productivity.
Location: BROOMHILL Gardens Duration: 10am - 2pm
Seasonal Context: Mid to late summer is a time of intensity and maintenance. Mulch protects soil from heat and moisture loss, while timely fertilising replenishes nutrients drawn down by rapid growth. Attending to these tasks now helps gardens remain resilient through late summer and prepares beds for the coming seasonal shift. Ways to Participate: Applying different mulch types across garden areas Mixing and applying natural fertilisers on suitable (shady) days Light pruning, thinning, and plant support Observing and discussing what the garden is asking for Tasks available for all ages and energy levels Learning Focus: Understanding how mulch functions as living protection, how and when to feed soil rather than plants, and recognising key mid-season interventions that prevent stress, disease, and depletion.
