Open Volunteer Mornings offer a way to spend time at BROOMHILL, contribute to the care of the gardens, and learn through shared practice. These sessions are for those who would like to join occasionally, meet others in the community, and spend time caring for a place that matters. For those wishing to walk with the garden through the seasons, the Stewardship Roster offers an ongoing rhythm of participation.
Location: BROOMHILL Slope Duration: 4h / 10am start
This Season: As winter begins to loosen its hold, the garden slowly prepares for the return of spring. This is a time for tending soil, caring for perennial plants, preparing growing spaces and supporting the many small tasks that help the garden flourish. During the Session: - Mulching garden beds and pathways - Preparing beds for spring growth - Caring for young trees and shelterbelts - Clearing and organising materials - Light infrastructure repairs - Observing seasonal changes and ecosystem patterns - Sharing tea and conversation Shared Learning: Through participation we explore seasonal gardening, ecological care, observation and the practical knowledge that grows through working alongside the land What to bring: - Weather-appropriate clothing and layers for comfort throughout the morning - Sturdy footwear, as slopes and pathways can be muddy and uneven - Gardening gloves if you have them (we also have some available to borrow) - A water bottle and any personal refreshments you may need - Curiosity and a willingness to learn through shared practice

The Stewardship Roster is a small group of local people who return regularly to care for BROOMHILL through the changing seasons. Together we tend the gardens, pathways, tools and wider landscape — sharing the practical work of growing, maintaining and caring for this place. As part of this ongoing rhythm, participants receive a seasonal share of the garden harvest. This is a continuing commitment to walking with the garden through the seasons.
