Olmec from Blockhill — Gratitude for Flowing Knowledge
Having grown up on a small organic farm in North Canterbury, Olmec brings a lifelong connection to land, gardening, and ecological awareness. Years of travelling, observing different ways of life, and applying systems thinking to both human and natural systems have shaped a deep understanding of how land, water, and people interact.
Olmec brought immense knowledge to the workshop, and it was a joy to work and learn alongside him. The day was full of marking, discussing pros and cons, and shaping a thoughtful layout. Together with our supportive volunteers, we are now implementing the design — digging channels, moving earth, and allowing shapes and plants to emerge naturally.
This work transforms the steep slope into a future landscape of food, abundance, and resilience. The collaboration reminded us that knowledge, care, and careful observation of natural flows are as nourishing as the plants themselves. We are grateful for Olmec’s generosity and for the hands that help bring this vision to life, turning ideas into thriving, living systems.
